It’s a Brand Boulevard block party
Glendale’s suddenly booming culinary scene has apparently earned its own block party, as everyone from Shake Shack and Mainland Poke to Epic Taco Shop and Bourbon Steak will be participating in a Saturday party taking place right on Brand. The streets will be closed from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m., with Golden Road Brewing pouring beer, live music, and more — tickets are $50 presale, $60 at the door.
Culture Club 101 opens in Pasadena
There’s a new healthy-eating option in Pasadena these days, as Culture Club 101 is up and running on Washington Boulevard. The cafe, learning center, and marketplace brings everything from fermented foods to takeaway dishes to the quiet neighborhood, years after operating as a members-only culinary club.
The awesome Mr. Fries Man
KCRW’s Good Food talks about the viral nature of one-off food stories like the unstoppable Mr. Fries Man, who makes over-the-top french fries for delivery in and around Gardena. Craig Batiste is the man in question, and his prodigious Instagram following has helped propel the underground operation to new heights.
Natural wines at The Springs
Anthony Cailan, formerly of Domaine LA, is popping up with some wine at The Springs in the Arts District, with two wine dinners this Thursday and Friday. Each is $110, and includes pairings alongside a meatless six-course meal.
Taste Talks takes LA
Taste Talks, the excessively popular East Coast festival series, is coming to Los Angeles with a bunch of strong speakers on the docket. Running November 4 to 6, chefs from Curtis Stone to Suzanne Tracht to Nyesha Arrington will be involved, spread across everywhere from The Unique Space in the Arts District to The Line Hotel in Koreatown. Yogurt happy hour in Westwood
Relative newcomer Moo Greek Yogurt is in the midst of a pretty fun promotion: every day from 3 p.m. to 6 p.m., yogurt at the shop on San Vicente Boulevard is buy one, get one free. Of course this isn’t the purely sweet stuff you might find at Yogurtland, but rather tart Greek options with a variety of toppings and flavors.
Lucky Peach’s power vegetables tour
Sweetgreen in Hollywood is partnering up with Lucky Peach for a vegetable-focused evening of fun this Sunday, throwing a shindig from 7 p.m. to 10 p.m. The Sqirl team will be on hand as well, alongside LP’s editorial director Peter Meehan, to cook veggies, listen to live music, and sign books.
