SUMMARY:A Photographic Journey of My Homeland\, Armenia
DESCRIPTION:Physicist and photographer Vahe Peroomian will speak about his newly published travel book\, A Photographic Journey of my Homeland\, Armenia. \nA Photographic Journey of my Homeland\, Armenia\, was published in April 2014\, and contains photo essays chronicling Peroomian’s travels and experiences in Armenia and Nagorno- Karabakh from 2004 to 2011 and featuring 215 stunning colors\, and infrared black and white photographs. “With every short walk\, and with every kilometer driven\, I wiped clean the slate of my early impressions of Armenia\, and fell in love with the vibrant landscape\, teeming with life\, with beauty\, and with ancient wonders\,” stated Peroomian. In addition to road trips to ancient sites\, churches\, and monuments\, Peroomian’s essays include his experiences covering the 2008 presidential elections\, commemorations of the Armenian Genocide\, and the unveiling of a millennial church discovered in the forests of Karabakh. \nVahé Peroomian\, is a professor of physics and astronomy at UCLA and carries out research in space science and space weather. He is also the president of the Board of Trustees of Glendale Community College. Peroomian’s love of photography blossomed into a passion fourteen years ago. He is a self-trained photographer\, and prefers a hands-on approach and independent experimentation with photographic styles and techniques. He has found that the same off-the- wall approach that works in solving physics problems helped him see the landscapes in a new light. The play between cloud and landscape in his book characterizes the manifestation of his viewpoint in his photographs. \nFor more information email Elizabeth Grigorian\, Armenian Outreach Coordinator\, Glendale Library\, Arts & Culture Department or (818) 548-3288.
