SUMMARY:Los Angeles Chamber Orchestra Presents Mozart & Prokofiev
DESCRIPTION:It’s human nature to cling to the familiar\, but change is inevitable\, and artists often point the way forward. Long before Bob Dylan gave voice to the Sixties with his ‘For the times they are a-changin\,’ Haydn\, who continually reinvented himself\, named his 64th Symphony ‘Times Change.’ \nMozart poured grief over his mother’s death into the beautifully crafted Flute Concerto\, while Prokofiev drew inspiration for his athletic Violin Concerto from his gradual repatriation back to Moscow. Principal flute David Shostac celebrates 40 seasons at LACO performing Mozart and Joseph Swensen returns to solo in Prokofiev. \nLACO composer-in-residence Andrew Norman describes Gran Turismo as ‘a creative joyride.’ Embrace change and hop aboard!\nProgram includes: \nJeffrey Kahane\, conductor\nDavid Shostac\, flute\nJoseph Swensen\, violin \nHAYDN – Symphony No. 64 in A major\, ‘Times Change’\nMOZART – Flute Concerto No. 1 in G major\nANDREW NORMAN – Gran Turismo\nPROKOFIEV – Violin Concerto No. 2 in G minor \nPrograms and artists subject to change. \n7:00 PM – Pre-Concert Preludes – Ticket includes admission. Some Preludes feature LIVE performances of short chamber works. All provide interesting insights into the music and artists.\nAfter-Party\nMeet LACO musicians and enjoy complimentary appetizers and drinks. \nEvery person\, regardless of age\, must have a ticket.

SUMMARY:Los Angeles Chamber Orchestra Presents Mozart Jupiter
DESCRIPTION:When last did you dream big – really reach for the stars? Mozart’s ‘Jupiter’ – as its name suggests – is a colossal\, forward-looking work\, one that sagely prefigures the scope and emotional depth of Beethoven’s music and other early Romantic works. Containing both gravity and joy\, it stretches the bounds of the classical symphonic form. To what other heights\, we wonder\, might Mozart have taken us had he lived beyond his 36 years? \nJoshua Weilerstein\, just 27\, already has three seasons as assistant conductor with the New York Philharmonic under his belt. He opens the program with Joseph Hallman’s Imagined landscapes: six Lovecraftian elsewheres and taps Armenian cellist Narek Hakhnazaryan\, who won the prestigious Tchaikovsky International Competition in 2011\, for a Concerto Saint-Saëns wrote at age 37.\nProgram includes: \nJoshua Weilerstein\, conductor\nNarek Hakhnazaryan\, cello\nLACO debuts \nJOSEPH HALLMAN – Imagined landscapes: six Lovecraftian elsewheres\nSAINT-SAËNS – Cello Concerto No. 1 in A minor\nMOZART – Symphony No. 41 in C major\, ‘Jupiter’ \nPrograms and artists subject to change. \n7:00 PM – Pre-Concert Preludes – Ticket includes admission. Some Preludes feature LIVE performances of short chamber works. All provide interesting insights into the music and artists. \nEvery person\, regardless of age\, must have a ticket.

SUMMARY:Live Talks Los Angeles Presents Eric Bogosian
DESCRIPTION:AN EVENING WITH ERIC BOGOSIAN discussing his book Operation Nemesis: The Assassination Plot that Avenged the Armenian Genocide \nEric Bogosian is an actor\, playwright\, and novelist of Armenian descent. He was a Pulitzer Prize finalist for his play Talk Radio\, and is the recipient of the Berlin Film Festival’s Silver Bear Award\, as well as three Obie Awards and the Drama Desk. In addition to his celebrated work in the theater and onscreen\, he has authored three novels. \nFew people talk about the Armenian Genocide\, one of the 20th century’s greatest atrocities and one that to this day is not acknowledged as such by several national governments. Fewer still talk about—or even know of—the calculated revenge plot enacted in secret against the responsible officials. 2015 marks the 100 years since the Armenian Genocide. \nIn Operation Nemesis: The Assassination Plot That Avenged the Armenian Genocide\, Eric Bogosian crafts a masterful account of the conspiracy of assassins that hunted down and killed the perpetrators of the massacre. \nIn 1921 in the middle of a crowded Berlin street\, Turkish national Talat Pasha was shot dead by an Armenian student Soghomon Tehlirian. The shooter was swiftly arrested and his case went to trial. Despite his obvious guilt\, the student was acquitted—his impassioned defense claimed he was overwhelmed with rage at the sight of the man who had participated in the murder of his family. But as Bogosian details in the book\, Tehlirian was not just in the right place at the right time. He didn’t witness the deaths of his family. And he wasn’t even a student. He played the first part in a meticulously plot\, orchestrated by a small group of self-appointed patriots to avenge the nearly one million victims of the Armenian Genocide. Over the next several years\, the vigilante group tracked down and assassinated at least ten more former Turkish leaders. \nActor\, novelist\, and playwright Eric Bogosian uses his considerable storytelling gifts to create a narrative of Operation Nemesis\, set against an illuminating history of Ottoman and Armenian conflict\, as well as a chilling examination of the genocide itself. Bogosian was brought up on the importance of his Armenian heritage. Every Armenian he knew had lost family in the massacre and his grandfather told him from the tender age of four\, “If you ever meet a Turk\, kill him.” When he later began investigating his heritage in earnest\, Bogosian found scattered accounts of a cadre of assassins and a covert plan named for the Greek goddess of retribution. \nBogosian casts fresh light on one of the greatest crimes of the twentieth century and one of history’s most remarkable acts of retribution.
