Celebrity panelists and Stand Up Comedians will join forces with AFS to present an evening of challenging classic horror trivia and irreverent humor. \nAFS also presents a classic animated short and feature film. This year we are saluting the vintage horror produced by Hammer Films. \nBrides of Dracula (1960) was the first follow-up to Horror of Dracula (1958) in a series that would eventually include eight titles. Many fans consider it one of the greatest in the Hammer canon. The scenery is beautiful\, the well-constructed plot has globs of gothic perversity\, the ladies are as lovely as ever\, and Peter Cushing is at the top of his game.

Widely regarded as one of the greatest films of all time\, with 10 Academy Award Nominations and three wins for Best Picture\, Best Actor and Best Screenplay Adaptation\, THE GODFATHER makes its Alex Theatre screen debut for this one night only event. Based upon Mario Puzo’s classic novel of the same name\, the story focuses on the powerful Italian-American crime family of Don Vito Corleone (Marlon Brando). When the Don’s youngest son\, Michael (Al Pacino)\, reluctantly joins the Mafia\, he becomes involved in the inevitable cycle of violence and betrayal. Although Michael tries to maintain a normal relationship with his wife\, Kay (Diane Keaton)\, he is drawn deeper into the family business. \nPre-Screening reception is your chance to mix and mingle with the many screenwriters\, filmmakers and VIPs participating in this year’s film festival. Post-screening\, attendees will get a chance to be a part of a Q&A about the film followed by a short cocktail reception in the Alex Theatre Forecourt. \nThe Glendale International Film Festival is a private non-profit organization whose mission is to show quality films which tell a story by using outstanding dialogue free from the common expletive ridden fare and honoring women film makers and screenwriters from around the world with the emphasis upon the local Glendale film maker and screenwriter. The theme of the festival is ‘All Creatures Great and Small from the Animal Kingdom (especially Cats\, Dogs and Horses!).’ Now in its 4th year\, GIFF will be contributing 20% of the proceeds from the festival to Glendale/La Canada/La Crescenta public schools and Glendale Community College for film making and screenwriting programs.

SUMMARY:Celebrating Lalo Schifrin 85th Birthday Concert
DESCRIPTION:Musicians at Play\, Music Fund Los Angeles\, and Varèse Sarabande are honored to present Lalo Schifrin’s 85th Birthday Concert at the historic Alex Theatre in Glendale. The evening will be hosted by Robert Townson. Guest Conductor Chris Walden will lead an all-star big band and special guests in celebrating Lalo’s life\, artistry\, and esteemed body of work. Flutist Sara Andon will solo with the band for a pair of historic Schifrin pieces. Additional special guests to be announced. \nLalo Schifrin is a venerated composer\, conductor\, pianist\, and jazz musician. He has written classic television themes and over 100 film scores including Mission: Impossible\, Mannix\, Bullitt\, Cool Hand Luke\, The Cincinnati Kid\, The Competition and so many more. His five Grammys\, one Cable ACE Award\, and six Academy Award nominations are a testament to his impact on the music industry. \nNet proceeds from the event and Silent Auction will go to support music education in schools and aid for professional musicians in crisis.
