Flutist Sara Andon will solo with the band for a pair of historic Schifrin pieces. Additional special guests to be announced. \nLalo Schifrin is a venerated composer\, conductor\, pianist\, and jazz musician. He has written classic television themes and over 100 film scores including Mission: Impossible\, Mannix\, Bullitt\, Cool Hand Luke\, The Cincinnati Kid\, The Competition and so many more. In 1972 theatre creative giants Styne\, Merrill and Stone transformed the property into a new musical titled SUGAR. Set in prohibition-era Chicago and Miami\, SUGAR tells the story of two unemployed musicians\, Joe and Jerry\, who\, after witnessing a mob murder\, go undercover as women and join an all-female band. DESCRIPTION:Take a free backstage tour of the Alex Theatre for an exclusive\, behind-the-scenes look at the historic venue as you have never seen it before! \nThe tour is led by a guide who will conduct an overview of the landmark’s 91-year history\, from its inception as a vaudeville house and movie palace in 1925 to its transformation to a world-class performing arts and entertainment center in the 1990s and more recently\, the backstage expansion of 2014 and current programs and activities. \nParticipants will also have the chance to see sound and lighting demos and explore and learn about the facility’s interior and exterior architecture\, in addition to the sculptures and art and antique objects that adorn the venue. \nThis two-hour walking tour includes climbing stairs and is not recommended for young children. DESCRIPTION:Richard Dawkins\, world-renowned evolutionary biologist and best-selling author\, will be in conversation to discuss science\, secularism\, and current events. The on-stage conversation will be followed by a Q&A and a book signing. \nRichard Dawkins was the Charles Simonyi Professor of the Public Understanding of Science at Oxford University from 1995-2008. He is an international best-selling author. Among his books are The Ancestor’s Tale\, The Selfish Gene\, The Blind Watchmaker\, Climbing Mount Improbable\, Unweaving the Rainbow\, A Devil’s Chaplain\, The God Delusion\, The Greatest Show on Earth\, The Magic of Reality\, and An Appetite for Wonder. His most recent book\, A Brief Candle in the Dark\, is the second part of his autobiography. Dawkins is a Fellow of the Royal Society and of the Royal Society of Literature.
