Bruce Kalman’s favorites
LA Magazine chats with Knead & Co. lead Bruce Kalman about his favorite dishes from across the city. It’s an eclectic mix (with stories to match) that spans everything from Singaporean chili crab at Phorage to the patty melt at The Bellwether in the Valley.
Lobster and filet mignon
Want to feel like a baller without all that necessary money being thrown around? Get to The Gallery in Westlake Village on any Sunday or Monday, where for apparently just $42 a head guests can dine on a three-course meal with both lobster tail and filet mignon, plus a few other dishes throughout the night. Not bad.
Party at Oh Man! Ramen
Couldn’t make it to Desert Trip last weekend? That’s okay, just watch the below video from the Oh Man! team, wherein they serve up their spicy ramen to lots of waiting diners. It’s almost like being there.
The Pie Hole expands to the Americana
Here’s good news for anyone walking around The Americana: soon enough you’ll be able to get some Pie Hole in your life. The popular pie and coffee shop is opening up a standalone kiosk at the popular Glendale mall, and it should have the whole thing operational by this winter.
Spumoni returns
Toddrickallen takes a look at the newly refreshed Spumoni on Montana Avenue in Santa Monica, which only a year ago had a car crash through the front. Thing are better than ever it seems, thanks in part to a brand new wood-fired oven.
Evan Funke does Chi Spacca
Big forces are colliding with this upcoming Tuesday night dinner at Chi Spacca, wherein pasta maestro Evan Funke will debut an early look at his restaurant Felix. He’ll be hand-making pastas while the Chi Spacca team does their meaty best alongside — all for the whopping price of $275.
A re-up for The Larder
Suzanne Goin and Caroline Styne’s The Larder at Tavern has a new look, thanks to a swift bit of construction. Designer Ross Cassidy has helped to add more seats, pull out some display cases, and solidify the Danish modern aesthetic, complete with new stools and lots of access to that all-important wine at the bar.
Ten years in with the Rustic Canyon family
Josh Loeb and Jeremy Fox chat with Food GPS on the ten year run of Rustic Canyon, the seminal Santa Monica restaurant that Fox has helmed for a few years now. It’s interesting to hear the pair chat about what the place has become, about Fox’s enduring vision for what he’s trying to do with the cuisine, and what Loeb might just have in store down the line.
Free food Friday at Greenleaf
The bright new Greenleaf in Glendale is giving away food all day today, with a limited selection of available items gratis from 11 a.m. to 10 p.m. today, or while those supplies last. Anyone wishing to do a little good can actually choose to pay the cost of their meal forward to the Children’s Hospital of Los Angeles as well.
